    ...I have had the chance of visiting a police station in Sydney to lodge a complaint. There was no fear in entering the police station as the entrance had a glass (which showed transparency) facade. At the reception, I was received by a duty officer who lodged my complaint and gave me a card with the plaint number. I sent them feedback via a thank you card and received a letter thanking me for my appreciation of services. In contrast, most police stations in India have an intimidating air. A legacy of the British rule, police stations were designed as rectangular buildings where the public, police, and offenders shared a common space. Custody rooms with iron grills were used to detain accused persons. Today, the British-style police stations have been redesigned to accommodate more functional amenities, but a few elements of the colonial design seem to have lingered on. ...
