...This means a low life. How can this be condoned?. This guy has been able to get away with Treason— he has been on Pakistani TV asking them to get rid of PM Modi. Every Indian who saw that clip was stunned but since the Congress had been defeated solidly in the 2014 election, most Indians and the media channels ignored it. But can his vitriol be ignored for ever? This was the guy who claimed on national TV that Modi could never be the Prime Minister because he was a ‘chai wallah’ — a man who came up from poverty, unlike the blue blooded dynasty that had ruled India from its Independence. It was a slap in the face of merit against royalty. Royalty in India was stripped of its privy purses and territory by the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty only to be replaced its own claim to the throne. Mani Shanker Aiyer has made it amply clear again and again that this is how it should be in the World’s Largest Democracy— and surprisingly, the Congress Party has allowed this diatribe to continue. ...

...It was not too big and overwhelming and yet its panels and discussions brought together 200 professionals from different walks of life – from the environment to poetry to the symbolism of temple carvings and from facts such as keeping India safe and the myriad lives of a bureaucrat! The participants came from all corners of India and the world. ...

...According to such people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in spite of the fact that he works around the clock even when he is travelling, is criticised for everything he does. First, they wanted major reforms, he delivered. He had banking inclusion for the poor. Then he announced the Digital India campaign in a bid to make India leap forward in technology along with the Make in India campaign. Then he had demonetisation. The biggest reform of all. And of course, some in the media and the opposition hollered while the world media looked up to India for doing something no democracy or even a dictatorship would dare to do. I would tell my fellow Indians to just look at Pakistani TV and to gauge how much PM Modi is admired. They wring their hands in despair about their state of governance and ask – why could we not have had a PM like Modi? ...

...Pakistan is actually worried about a foreign hand killing its top terrorist—Hafiz Saeed who has a ten-million-dollar bounty on his head by the US. Therefore, it has increased security for him. It is clear that Pakistan not only wants its terrorists to thrive in safe havens but actually wants to make it even safer. Just like they kept Osama bin Laden—the most wanted man on the planet—safe for several years, they want all their terrorists to be alive and well in their especially secured safe havens to use at will against neighbouring countries. This has always been its game and its deep state is not about to change that. For President Trump and his cabinet thinking that by giving Pakistan one more chance to get rid of its terrorists is going to work, here is their answer. It is splashed on the front page of the Times of India, today. ...

...We all know what needs to be done. London has done it and several other cities around the world. If not addressed on a war footing we stand to lose billions of dollars in tourism and foreign direct investment. In addition, medical costs, days lost to illness and bad publicity will destroy us. The best time of the year in the North, when it is cool and high season for tourists has become the most wretched. The sad part is everyone knows what has to be done. It is written about, discussed and debated endlessly and yet years pass and the situation only gets worse. We need more public transport first and less cars. It is sad that in the last three years our bus fleet has gone down, not up. I recall when Kejriwal came into power he promised 10,000 buses but we have less than 4,000 now. We need to urgently try and get motorcycles and scooters electrified. ...

...Not a sovereign state of the British nor a vague kind of autonomy. Thus, a nationalist came to mean someone who loves our country and wants the best for it. Unfortunately, today, thanks to the opposition and some parts of the mainstream media, Nationalism has got a bad name. According to the Oxford Dictionary—nationalist is a patriot. Most Indians would not deny this. My father who was in the army was a Nationalist; all our armed forces, Muslims, Hindu, Christian, Jew or Sikh are nationalists; millions of others living in India of every caste and creed are nationalist, they may criticize the government or their local politician but never India, their country of birth. Perhaps the Congress angst on nationalism comes from the fact that neither Sonia, who is an Italian by birth and only came to India when she got married, and Rahul her progeny does not really know who he is, apart from being the heir of a Dynasty. ...

...Diwali is our Festival of Lights, when Lord Ram returns victorious and claims his Kingdom and should be celebrated. But instead of firecrackers all over the place could we not do what countries all over the world do? Fourth of July in the US is celebrated with fireworks but communities and cities arrange it. Citizens are told where they can come together to watch, there are many large areas chosen where huge crowds don’t have to gather. It is spectacularly aesthetic while being safe and high enough that it can be seen from rooftops or from parks. It can even be in the form of a laser light show in places, where air pollution levels are high. There is no danger to life and less low hanging pollution. There is no personal cost and entire communities enjoy the half an hour treat. India has many religious festivals, where people are allowed to litter, degrade water bodies and take out huge processions that make cities come to a standstill. Chhat Puja just ended where the ghats are full of plastic bottles and waste. ...
